Thank you for sharing this! I have told my adult kids, now 30 and 35 ; that I feel like “ I should have done more, known more” … I tell them that they are busy doing what I thought was what I was “ supposed to be doing “ when I was younger exactly their age… working and raising them ( by myself). I did not know/ think I was “ ignorant”. But to watch allll that has gone on in the last several years… leads me to believe, yes fundamentally I was ignorant of a lot! Fighting hard in my own way to resist , protest , spread the word.🥺.

I had to double check you wrote it way back when…how very true it is today… all the worse because we let it happen! You were/are a fireball with a keen eye on the workings of government, Romona…I want everyone to read and realize we’ve got to save what we can!

God bless you for sharing this again! Love your bluntness and saying it like it is!

We may be old but still so bold ….thank you for that! For being you!

LOL, Joan, thank you for checking! It does seem impossible, doesn’t it? I mean, that was 14 years ago! It’s just insane that we’re here now, despite all of those signals, all of those warnings.

The one thing that bunch has going for them is tenacity. They never doubted that what’s happening today would happen some day.

You gotta give them that…

Wow. Here we are again. Where's SCOTUS and where are our elected officials?

The cruelty, criminality, conflict of interests, and constitutional breeches are so bold and blatant.

This can't continue- or can it? I'm grateful to live in another country yet my heart bleeds for mine.

“To live is to war with trolls.” - Ibsen

I was reminded of this quote today. It’s timeless and distressing true.

What you've experienced in your years of political activism, Mona, gives you a long lens through which to view what's happening today. I know it must be beyond disappointing to be here...again...or still. But I do find it oddly reassuring to know that though you felt as you did 15 years ago, the country survived. I hope that means we'll continue to do so.

In a similar vein, I came across this Harper's piece from 1964. I'd love to hear how it strikes you, if you get a chance to read it.

I know you told us at the beginning that it was written in 2011, but it really could have been written today. shame on us who thought it couldn't happen here. Thanks for continuing to be a voice we need to hear.

Anti- laborite billionaires have been fighting against any government support for working people ever since FDR and Frances Perkins put their plans into action. But there used to be enough reasonable Republicans to limit the damage. Now they seem more like Stepford Legislators. I can’t believe they think this will end well for all of them, but they are acting as though it will.

You're right, Ramona, this could be written today. She's breaking our heart even more profoundly today. ?Thanks for your voice.

This piece was prescient. It's also disheartening that as bad as things were in 2011, they're much worse now. All hands on deck.

Yes, much worse. It's maddening that we had so many warnings.
