Be Careful what you wish for: Joe Has the Experience, the Know-how, the Moxie.
Don’t let perception and expectations get in the way.
From as far back as 2020, Donald Trump has been calling Joe Biden ‘senile’. He couldn’t call him ‘old’ because Trump himself is by all measures old. So he grabbed the worst thing you can call an old person and ran with it. And of course he made it stick.
Just as he made Hillary the ‘lock her up’ candidate by questioning her honesty to deflect from his own blatant and out-there dishonest history.
I can’t say it’s Donald’s fault that so many are now questioning Biden’s mental faculties, but that’s the way these seeds are planted.
So what makes Joe senile? Is it the way he speaks—haltingly—often flubbing his words? Hasn’t he always done that? He’s a known stutterer. He has to concentrate harder than we do on how his words come out and he often messes up. As stutterers do. It’s a handicap but it’s not senility.
Is it because he’s looking old now? He shuffles as he walks, he listens with his mouth open, he takes long pauses before he answers. Again, not senility.
If there are true signs that Biden won’t be able to do the job and there are people on the inside who know this for a fact, they need to step forward and give details. How is it manifesting? What are they seeing that so many of us are not? Give examples. Proof. This is important.
We need absolute proof before we throw out the only candidate worth taking on Donald Trump right now. So far we’re going on conjecture. So far too many are projecting that he won’t be able to do it. But nobody has yet proven that Joe Biden is so far gone there’s no hope of an effective presidency in our futures.
A half-hearted “Well, he’ll always be better than Trump” isn’t good enough, either. If it’s meant to inspire, it doesn’t. At this moment it looks like fully half of all Democrats are doubting whether Joe should be the candidate. The reality is, we’re a divided party and Joe Biden is the reason for the divide.
I’m passionate about wanting Joe and only Joe as my next president. Others are equally passionate that we can’t and won’t win if Joe is still insisting it be him.
What if I’m wrong? I could be. But I haven’t seen any proof yet that I am wrong. I see flaws in Joe but I don’t see incapacity.
What if the other half of my party is wrong? What if they rush headlong into dumping Joe as the only remedy, the only way we can beat Trump—and they’re wrong?
There are no guarantees either way. Biden could win or he could lose. Trump could win or he could lose. Another Democratic candidate could win or they could lose. We’ve guaranteed nothing by dumping Joe.
How knee-jerk is the reaction to force Biden to leave the campaign now? How accurate are those who are calling for it? What do they really know vs. what they fear?
We have to stop right now and get this settled. If it’s perception we’re battling and not straight facts, we need to kill that perception with the truth. Fully half of the voters we’re counting on BELIEVE Biden isn’t the man for the job. They’re waiting for Joe himself to prove he is, and a big part of it will be on him, but there are others who know the truth. They must step forward and give us the truth—good or bad.
Without them we’re flying blind. Wishing. Hoping. Fearing. Guessing. We no longer have time for this. If Joe Biden is to win in November he’ll need his party behind him, supporting him without equivocation, with full faith that he can pull it off. And the public has to see that.
If his race goes on and the support from the top feels half-hearted, the voters will feel half-hearted, too. They’ll stay away. They’ve done it before, but never when the stakes have been this high.
This election has the capacity to change our lives forever. We need to work at this at Defcon 1 level. We can’t just TRY to get it right. We HAVE to get it right. And the first order of business in the war room is to have unyielding faith in the leader we put in charge.
Can we do that? Whoever it turns out to be? That’s the big question now.
It’s called ageism. We all do it. And people are living longer so maybe 81 is not that old anymore. There’s been a lot said about Joe’s mental state; actually too much, in my opinion. But the Democrats are now pulling together, well maybe not “all” but most. That’s what we need to do… get behind Joe and Kamala. If Joe can’t compete 4 years there is Kamala and she will be ready to step in. That’s what vice-presidents do. Vote blue up and down the ticket to avoid gridlock. We need Joe Biden. He’s for the people. Trump is not. He’s self-centered. It’s always about him.
I’m 80 and active as ever, just like Joe! I forget where I’m going in long convos… but so do many much younger friends! The judging and ageism is shameful … especially coming from celebrities, his own people. Not everyone keeps up the pace he’s going now…remember Obama’s commitment to family dinner time no matter what? Joe’s under pressure right now and it’s not healthy… he shouldn’t have to prove anything, change minds! We also need to rally round Kamala…she’s part of this and will step up and do what’s needed for democracy if ever needed!
