You are a treasure. You articulate our shared feelings and thoughts so well. Thank you! Iām glad to hear that your chemo is going well. May that continue until you completely recover.
As an elder (71) and fellow Michigander, Iām here for you, Ramona! The aging process is so cruel. š
Although Iām still in relatively good health, Iām considering āassisted passingā when Iām no longer functioning at a decent level. Fortunately, the Dr. Kavorkian solution is legal now in an increasing number of U.S. states. My only offspring is aware of this, and she understands and supports my decision (at least to my face). It will be followed by cremation and the scattering of my ashes in the ocean or the woods.
As a society, the U.S. treats our pets more compassionately than we treat our sundowning humans. But when we consider how much revenue would be lost by the institutions that enrich themselves by keeping terminally ill people alive through extreme measures, itās easy to see why we do it. To paraphrase a famous observation, āItās the profits, stupid!ā
With all my heart, my friend, I hope you will defeat the scourge of cancer. Please keep us posted.
Good for you. Assisted passing is a mercy for some and nothing should stand in your way if itās your choice. Dr. Kevorkian had the right idea. He was just ahead of his time and he came off strange. Iām glad there were others who took up his cause.
Glad you're half way through chemo. Good luck with the next four rounds and good for you for doing what feels best for you. Sometimes, staying home is exactly what we need. What a wonderful grandson you have, and he lives close by, too. How nice for you both.
As for your writing - don't uderestimate your impact. What you write DOES matter. A lot. It motivates, informs, fires us up, and without a doubt, helps keep us sane. So don't doubt yourself and the impact your writing has had and continues to have. Thank you!
āWeāre talking about having Chinese for Christmasā
I have been thinking about this for a while, and finally got around to writing something. There is a Jewish tradition, at least in New York, to have a Chinese dinner and a movie on Christmas Eve. This year Barbara and I are also planning Chinese on Christmas Eve and leftovers on Christmas Day. The one nearby restaurant we like always gives way too much for old people like us to eat at once.
It'll be interesting to see how many others join us at the Chinese Buffet. I like buffets for that very reason: Too much food at other restaurants. Plus I can choose more options. And it's good!
You help keep me sane, Ramona. Thank you. š¤šš¤
Well, that's a perk! Let's keep on doing this!
