Ramona, I was actually just thinking about you during that sleepless period that strikes nightly...realizing it had been a while since I'd seen a Constant Commoner post. Glad to know you are well, and yes, we'll always need each other.
Wow. That is a harrowing experience. Glad you and your son are ok. I hope everyone else near you is safe, sound and no loss of life or limb. I hope you're able to restock your fridge soon and that the inflation driving everything up doesn't break the bank doing it. Stay well and stay safe.
Thank you. I dread trying to restock the fridge and freezer stuff. I hated having to throw all that food away! But better safe than sorry. It had to go.
I’ll do it slowly so it doesn’t break the budget! That hotel stay was bad enough.
My God that sounds wild! They were talking about the storm reaching us in Ottawa but we got about a nights' worth of ice and then it was all rain. Apparently some areas of the city had downed power lines but I don't think anyone was without power for more than a day. There was mention that it could have been as bad as the Ice Storm of 98, but it wasn't by some miracle. I'm glad you're safe and home. And it is deceptively beautiful if not severely damaging.
Glad to hear from you! It’s been quite a week and we were with the folks heading south from Petoskey. Most of the people at the Best Western in TC (they allow dogs) were from our neck of the woods. We were called evacuees and checked in with each other over breakfast in the lobby to see what each person had heard. Cheers went up when someone found out they had power at home. So much kindness both in our temporary “home” and once we got back up here. We’ll be hearing chain saws for a long time.
I’m glad everything worked out for you, too. We met lots of ‘refugees’, as well, and shared our stories. There are still pockets of outages in the Petoskey area, and our internet is still out. I’m using my phone as a tether, and watching DVDs at night.
I'm thanking the powers that be that you weren't still in your more isolated cabin on this one, Ramona. The trees tell the story all too well. Ouch! Bless you for letting us know that you are safe and regrouping. I'm sorry about all the food you've lost and warmed to learn how neighbors are showing up for each other. (Wonder how long it will take before it'll get political? 😬)
Beautiful but treacherous! (Remembering the ice storms,I've experienced.) Glad you were safe and warm and dry. It's so affirming that despite "the great divide" in this country, neighbors helping neighbors cannot be stamped out! I would venture to guess that many of those in D.C. have not experienced such grace! And...spring is coming!
It should be noted that this particular county votes Red consistently. I don’t know the ‘color’ of the people helping out, but it was refreshing, to say the least.
It was wicked! We got off easy, as it happens. There are still many without power here, even with thousands of workers out there every day. Market shelves are still almost empty, and the winds won’t calm down.
Our internet is still out, but thanks to the marvel of phone tethering I’m doing fine there, too. ❤️
Glad you are safely home.

Quite an adventure! So glad you are safe & home Ramona!💙
What an experience and I'm so relieved that you're safe and sound at home.
Climate change is heartbreaking beyond the devastation.
Yay for shelter from the storm, so many storms............
Yes, I think this is our future now. We’ll have to be prepared at all times.
Yikes, glad you are OK!

Wow, I had heard something about this but had no idea it was so bad. Glad you are okay!

Mona! I am so glad you’re all right. I’ve been trapped in an ice storm in West Virginia. And those storms are wild.
Also love hearing about everyone helping each other out. :)
Thanks, Holly. I've seen plenty of Ice storms but this one rose above all of them!

SPARRING WITH MOTHER NATURE up there Mona! Wow. Glad you're safe and warm. She is a powerful force indeed. J
