Don't Laugh. It's National Senior Citizens Day
Yes! Today! On the very day I'm trying this new thing.
It’s National Senior Citizens Day! I know! I had no idea, either! No big deal, I guess, but it’s a bit unnerving that I chose this day of all days to start a new section here at Substack called “Old is Good”. I’d written quite a bit about being old—enough that I thought it should warrant its own section.
I wanted to do it, too, because there’s still so much work to do to combat ageism and all its silliness. There are many old people who are writing about it and doing it well, but there’s still so much to do. The message isn’t getting out: “Old” is not a four-letter word. “Old” doesn’t mean feeble or feeble-minded or comic relief.
“Old” simply means we haven’t died yet. Lucky us! Do we need a national day to remind people we’re here and they should pay attention to us for at least 24 hours? I think it’s pretty silly, but you’ll notice I used it in my title just to get you to look. I even made fun of it for those of you who wouldn’t have looked otherwise.
So, yes, I know a little about what you might call ‘exploiting’, myself.
But I’m still spooked that it showed up in my search on the very day I’d decided to create an entire new section on being old.
On the very day…
Here is the section:

There are a couple of pieces new to Substack at the top, so I encourage you to give them a read. And of course, please comment. I’d really like to know what you think.
Looks good . . I like it!
