How E. B White Saw Fascism and WWII--the Parallels.
85 years later the warnings are still there.
Sorry to crash your inboxes so soon, but I’ve published a piece over at Writer Everlasting that I think you might be interested in.
E. B White, that writer who gave us Charlotte’s Web, was a columnist at Harper’s Magazine during the years when Hitler was moving toward taking over Europe at such an astonishing pace people in those countries and around the world couldn’t believe it was happening.
In the book One Man’s Meat, White’s Harper monthly essays from July 1938 to January 1943 are reprinted. He writes from his farm in Maine, often about local events and characters around him, but the war is always looming, and he looks at it from the perspective of an uneasy American whose duty it is to watch and warn.
As I read it I couldn’t help but make the comparison to our own unease at the growing fascism right here in our country, and I based my own essay on those parallels.
I hope you enjoy reading it. I found great pleasure in writing it. Feel free to comment over there. The comment section is always open and my work is always accessible.

Thanks for sharing such a fantastic read. You are a gem.
This wonderful posting was a balm to my heart this morning. My grandfather was a Congregational minister whose summer pastorate was in Chamberlain, Me. He had a correspondence relationship with EBWhite for several years. The letters I've seen were thoughtful and rich in content, important enough that he kept them.
