I would definitely rather be us than them.

They love fear.

They cheer for pain.

They laugh at cruelty.

They worship inhumanity.

This is MAGA.

This is evil.

Murkowski reminds me of AZ’s Jeff Flake. He always said something that gave us hope he wouldn’t go along with some hideous bill or appointment… and then he caved… every time. Glad he is gone from our congress. It will be interesting to see what happens to all these other weak and mealy-mouthed R’s. And if anyone says it was the Dems come 2026 (when all this kicks in), I’m gonna scream!

Hypocrisy is the name of the game in RepublicanLand. It’s almost their only skill. Aside from total destruction of the American way.

To my surprise, Susan Collins -Our Lady of Perpetual Concern- was a NO on the procedural vote. I got five bucks says she votes yes when it counts.

Yes. She'll vote 'yes'. No question about it. This is her way of seeming 'fair' or 'thoughtful', when we know exactly what she'll do when it really matters. If the vote had been closer she never would have voted 'no'. This is a pattern with them.

Thank you for talking about Murkowski in a thoughtful way without throwing in the sexist comments I'm seeing so much of elsewhere. When I tried pointing out the sexism to some of "our" guys, I was told I shouldn't focus on policing language and should grow some balls. Sigh.

I have no patience for Republican caving. It's better to do the right thing and lose your job for it than lose your soul. I know they've likely been threatened with violence too but we Dems have endured far more, so that argument doesn't sway me either. If they can't lead, they need to resign.

When we retake our democracy, I hope we implement severe consequences for all the Eichmans we're seeing now. We must make them harsh so future politicians and SCOTUS members think twice before ignoring their duties to the Constitution and to the American people. If we'd done that after J6 (for more than just the peons), we likely wouldn't be where we are now.

But yes, Ramona. I'd prefer having my self-respect, compassion, and sense of justice than I would having what they have, which is fear and (possibly) shame.

I want to pose some questions in good faith that I hope you or one of your readers will answer. You know I'm on the same team with you, Mona, and I wouldn't want it any other way. I'm also not looking to make excuses for the abysmal behavior of the GOP. But I do get that many of them are rationalizing a "ride it out" approach or telling themselves that if they stick their necks out and end up politically beheaded , their replacement will be even more extreme.

What would it take to get 10-15 representatives in the House or 3-5 in the Senate to form an internal coalition? Safety in numbers, right? Why haven't they done it already? I'm going to use the analogy of deciding to euthanize a pet. So often, we wait for a sign that it's the right time, and by the time we make that call we tell ourselves we wish we'd done it sooner.

I hope this insanity will drive their constituents to demand it. Murkowski's comments about "looking out for Alaskans" is total bunk!

Absolutely agree

It’s them or us at this point.

Looks that way.

It's amazing how much power she weilded so poorly for pork. Thanks for putting this together Mona. As always I appreciate your passion and your wisdom. J

The budget bill was passed by a vote in Congress. These can, and frequently have, been reversed, and we shall do that. At least now we have the opportunity to see what Mr Trump and the rest of his fellow travelers plan to do. As we proved during Prohibition, there aren't many laws that cannot be flouted or bypassed, and while Donald readies his army of stormtroopers we will have time to devise ways of defying them.
