How right you are! Women are always derided and denigrated. Even when we manage to complete some work four men could not in three days, yet I cracked the prize set us in 15 minutes!

Women have brains used to ignoring those men who don't want us to succeed. Eventually, after every battle we do win. Even at very great cost.

We use a new clear view, and if we can support each other, what worlds can we not win?

The good news is we're still working at it. They haven't broken us and never will.

No, we never, never, never give up!

I feel your pain, Ramona. I also have written numerous blog posts about women's rights and the danger to women. Back in 2000, I taught a Psychology of Women class to undergraduates in Texas. Far too many students were deeply ignorant about women's achievements and the dynamics of sexism and misogyny. It took me 17 weeks to educate them. How do we reach women and men who never learned this stuff in school (which is most of them)? As you mentioned about your blogs, few people read mine either. And now, If I were still a professor, I would no longer be allowed to teach the class because of the horrors of DEI and/or learning about anyone different from white men. After incredible gains, we've gone backwards.

Yes, we are still working on it but sometimes the despair is hard to shake. After HRC's "loss" I was so heartbroken I was practically comatose for a day. My grief was for her, for the country, and for the loss of my belief in women's progress. Given that I'm no longer in higher education, it's difficult to know where to put my energies wrt women's issues (I'm a fixture in local Democratic politics). What will have the most impact?

Thank you for continuing to shine a light. It's a breath of fresh air.

Misty, your own contributions are great and you've been at it for a long time, as well. Have you thought about writing essays on all you've said here? Or have you already and I've missed them? (Sorry if that's so.) I think younger women will only benefit from hearing our stories, since they're baffled, too.

What did we go through? What did we do? Did any of it help? Sure it did. Can we help again? Sure we can.

I have written essays about some of this but need to write more. I've struggled with writing things this year (for some weird reason). Here's one you might enjoy: https://medium.com/@drmistyhook/watching-hillary-helped-me-understand-america-f04593dc7617

As usual, for centuries now, we have to be the ones to take action to protect and prevent.

We must be in charge of our own lives and our communities.

We will prevail in this.

We always do.

This will be no exception.

As long as we’re all aware. That’s what these wake-up calls try to do. I’m glad I’m not alone here.

Hi Ramona, I agree, and it seems to me that we're losing any gains we'd been making, thanks to this administration. On another note, how are you doing?

Ramona Grigg's avatar

Hi Janice, thanks for asking. I had my third chemo yesterday and they fill me with large doses of steroids and anti-nausea stuff so I’m having a good day today! Three more days of lesser doses of steroids so I don’t crash until the fourth day, which will be Wednesday. So far so good with the aftereffects. They’re pretty minor compared to the last time but I’m only getting half-doses of the chemo “because of my age”. 🙄 So I’ll have more sessions but hopefully less bad side effects. ❤️

Oh, and my hair is almost gone. Shaved now. Waiting for my new snazzy wig!

Well, hang in there, my friend - you are delivering an important message that needs to be heard.

I know I know I know I know that the Rs know EXACTLY the hypocrisy they endorse and exhibit when they demand the sacred rights of not yet sentient blobs of cells, and at the same time deny food, healthcare, housing, and education for children, as well as supports so that their parents can work and earn a living to bring up their children.

It still makes me furious and I know that is also their intention.

Keep writing. I'll keep reading and speaking out in my own sphere.

I stood in the rain today, as I do most Saturday mornings, with my band of cohorts, letting people know we are out here, standing against the inhumanity of this regime.

It's the going BACKWARDS that distresses me the most, Mona. Never imagined the day(s)....

Ramona Grigg's avatar

Me too. Going backwards is such a betrayal. It would be too much if I didn't see signs of growing resistance. We can't keep quiet. We WON'T keep quiet.

Have we ever been out of danger? Just today, I found myself rereading the condensed history of the six wives of Henry VIII. Unable to give him a male heir, and abused at the whims of his narcissism, they were commodities, property, baby-making machines. And yet in Elizabeth's long reign, women were triumphant after all. Probably not the best example -- just one in easy reach of my explorations today. As Gayle says above, we do win!
