Okay, Ramona, you got me. I’m 79 and in my Substack today I used Don-old to call him out. So I’ll apologize for that. The rest of your comments are very welcome as I trudge the road of happy destiny, one day at a time!

Happy Birthday!

I’m only 66 but I have thirty years’ worth of plans.

I'm with you 100%. Donald Trump is the poster child for arrested development in a 12 year old overindulged bully.

You, on the other hand, are the poster child for a balanced, educated, caring, and mature adult who luckily is on the side of human rights and democracy. Age is irrelevant.

That's what I say! Age IS irrelevant. Who we are remains the same. What we've yet to become is still up to us. Living our best life in spite of everything else should be our goals, no matter how young or how old we are.

Thank you, Lisa, for your constant support. ❤️

Hey Gary, I’m going to look up your post because the link didn’t work. Maybe a tiny typo??

Don's mother said her birthday was Sept 9th, 1914. When she died (99 years later), we contacted social security to stop her payments and were told she was actually born on the 8th. We honestly don't know who was right, Blanche or the SSI records. Happy birthdays!

Wow, that's some longevity! I'm aiming to make it well into my 90s. Still driving, still laughing, still making good trouble. Because why not?

Those early birth certificate recorders could barely read, themselves, I'm told. My first and middle names are wrong on mine, too, along with that birth date. Yet I've used it all my life without a problem. I don't know why neither my parents nor I thought to fix it. Now I guess it doesn't matter. 😏

Happy Birthday, Ramona, Your posts have been inspiring to me since the first day I joined this platform, and I celebrate who you are on your day. The number of days/years you have been on this earth is of less importance than what you have done with that time!! We don’t celebrate traveling by the number of miles or the length of time invested but how our lives have been enriched by the journeys! My wish for you is continued joy and love for many years to come!!

A birthday! What a special day (days) to share such wise, humorous writing with all of us. Thank you and wishes for many more adventures. 🌻

I love the word “old”. It’s a strong, no-nonsense word, and I claim it. I claim the 86 years I’ve been here, and I want credit for every one of them.

It’s not a compliment to call me a “young lady”.

After this many years you will be either old or dead.

I’ll take old.

Happy birthday!

Right on, Carol. I take it as an insult to be called a young lady. In fact, I’ve never liked lady at all. Remember “Free To Be . . . You and Me” by Marlo Thomas?

Happy Birthday Ramona! I'm a few years younger than you but I do have a problem with ageism. Sometimes I feel like I am invisible. Your birthday present brings back memories. When I lived in the D.C. area Politics and Prose was the bookstore to go to. Now that I'm in Detroit I love Source Booksellers in Midtown.

The friends who sent me the mug live in DC, within view of the White House. I've never been there but I've known about Politics and Prose and really want to go there.

I haven't been to Source Booksellers or even heard of it. When I get to Detroit this winter I'll have to look it up.

Have you been to John King Books?

Expand full comment

I haven’t made it to John King yet but it is on my list. I moved to Detroit just as the Covid lockdown started and worrying about Covid has restricted some of what I do.

I’m wondering if you have read anything by Sue Leaf?
