Amazing as always, Ramona! My husband, a federal employee, always got (pre-pandemic) time off on Earth Day to participate in environmental projects. I wish all businesses did that. The environment is SO important and it seems increasingly endangered.

When my son was in elementary school, I was the Environmental Chair for the PTA. I organized a ton of projects, wrote a weekly column with environmental tips, and felt like I was ignored. They no longer have an Environmental Chair now. I took him out of school on occasion to attend environmental protests. My dad got arrested protesting the Keystone Pipeline. We take our environmentalism seriously in my family.

It feels like we're going backwards, with almost everything but most particularly the environment. I hope you sent your column to other outlets that could boost your message. It's much needed.

I was heartened this year by the number of essays touting Earth Day, but at the same time I have no illusions about the impact. The people of the world would still rather pretend the eroding environment is an issue for future generations. No number of warnings will get through. Not until they see they're directly affected--which means it's far too late.
