This so scary. I didn't realise there were Americans with these viewpoints on Russia. Yikes!

I wish it weren't so, Cali, but there are forces building in this country that blatantly work against us, and they're not quiet about it. Millions of people believe them, and that's terrifying. We've watched this in other countries and it's clear it's the beginning of the end for democracies. But here in America too many refuse to believe it could happen here. They're the ones we have to keep trying to convince.

Just a note, "We’ve never been Russia’s allies" needs a bit of editing.

I thought forgetting the Second World War was a right-wing specialty.

No, I haven't forgotten about WWII. It's a matter of parsing, I guess. It was expedient to work together at that time, but Churchill never trusted Stalin, and FDR thought if he placated Stalin and gave him some status, he would be an asset and not a liability.

After Roosevelt died, soon after Yalta, the uneasy friendship with Stalin ended. The fact that FDR could stomach Stalin didn't mean other American political leaders did. Truman refused to give aid to the USSR, and the Cold War began.
