No rain here! Anything we do with words that feels like play (and a challenge) is good for the aging mind. I spend maybe 15 minutes a day doing Swedish on Duolingo. It's a great break from everything else quotidian.

I like Connections, too, but don’t keep a running tally. I mess up too often. The writer Michael Chabon’s goal with Connections is to always get the purple ones first. (They’re supposed to be the hardest.) He brags about it on Threads.

I'm learning Esperanto on Duolingo! What a cool app that is! I'm not very far along, but it's something else challenging that Hubs and I do "together" separately, if that makes sense! :)

Where can you meet up with Esperanto speakers?

That's a good question! I recommend that you go onto the Esperanto Website for that info. https://retbutiko.esperanto-usa.org/

Try that link -- although I could not get it to be a true "link", the address is correct nonetheless.

That's the only place I know to visit for info --

I wasn't looking for them, wondered if you were near a community. My languages are French, German, Dutch, Swedish.

I apologize. I misunderstood. I do not know of a nearby group, but I bet the folks who run that website can assist you to find something. And I'm pretty sure their phone number is on the site so you could just call them and chat. :)

Great word! I use whatever comes into my head first, trying to make sure there are at least two vowels.

I love Wordle! I play in the morning while waiting for my coffee to brew. It's a good way to get my mind moving.

It's a fun thing, I enjoy word games too, hoping you are settling into your new digs!

I am! Thanks for asking. I’m going to write about it soon. It’s a rather odd experience for me. I’m learning things about how I settle in I’d never thought of before!

Congratulations! I'm not doing Wordle. Nevertheless, I totally get the passion that fills those who do! Hubs and I do the Crossword -- he starts and I finish -- and the Jumble--I do the various words and he does the picture response, usually before I do the words! It's fun and happy and SHARED! And that's the most important to me -- it's something that we share and accomplish together. Not every day, mind you, but many days, for sure. It's part of our Love Language. <3

I love that! I think the appeal of Wordle for me is that it doesn’t take long. I can do it and then get on with my day. I’ve done puzzles and word games that take HOURS and it’s a distraction I don’t need!

Count me in as a Wordle addict. Every morning, I look at my phone to see if my cousin Madge, age 92, 3000 miles away has sent me her veiled attempt. If she has, that's great because her starting word (OPERA) is different than mine (SLATE) and so sometimes I score an extra hint. I also do Keyword from the Washington Post.

Fun! I haven’t seen Keyword. I’ll have to look at it. Thanks.

I loved this! Cuz we Wordlers are breeds of our own. To date I have played over 489 games and solved all but 4. In 2013 I made 1412 guesses using 1008 unique words; in 2024, I’ve made 543 guesses using 463 terms. How do I know? I keep a spreadsheet tallying this as well as tracking success “scores.” I say Those who deride us should be forced to do daily “Spot the Difference” activities from Highlights magazine.

PS my first game in 2022 was a first guess success😮😮

Wow! I’m impressed at your record-keeping! I started Wordle when it first began, before the NYT, but lost my stats at some point and had to start over. I didn’t keep track of anything, so my new stats are all I have.

It's the first thing my daughter and I do every morning, and share our numbers on WhatsApp. Then we do Connections. But she's having her first baby next month....suppose she stops doing Wordle????? What will I do?

I’ve almost always done mine alone. When my husband was alive he wasn’t interested but he cheered me on when I got it—as if it really mattered!

I’m with you Ramona … I’ve been playing for 835 days and my longest streak was 255. I’ve had an ongoing Quordle competition with friends for nearly as long (I think we’re on week 114).

I loved Wordle for a long time, but I always free pressed for time in the mornings -- SO MANY SUBSTACKS TO READ! -- that I hurried through it more and more quickly, until I was losing more often than not. So I gave it up....
