I looked to see if it had been banned, and I found nothing since 1995, when it was banned at a high school for using the N word, and for sexual passages.
I remember when this came out. We were transfixed by it. My parents had lived in Surinam from just after the War until they moved to Canada in 1956. This is one of the major reasons they came to Canada. But such a great show.
Remember seeing the show when it was telecast. We didn’t appreciate it then, but the networks at that time had a moral compass. Now a network would probably pass for fear of being branded as WOKE.
I remember watching this and my dad sneering at it. I left permanently only months later. Some people never questioned their own prejudices. Those people are now ascendant. They are shameless. We have been warned many many times. Nobody is coming to save you.
Ramona, thanks for spotlighting this clip. I remember watching Ms. Tyson portray Harriet Tubman in A Woman Called Moses years ago on television. What a great miniseries. She was an incredible actress and just plain everything as a person. Regal, poised, commanding rooms and scenes with just her gaze. A real lioness of stage and screen. May she rest in blessed eternal peace.
I've never seen "A Woman Called Moses". My loss. I'll have to see if I can find it somewhere. Cicely Tyson was a brilliant actress and a fine human being. She's an inspiration.
I looked at IMDB and it's currently streaming on the following services, Freevee and Tubi which are both free with ads, Roku Channel which is also free for those using their streaming box, and can be rented from Amazon. I think Freevee and Tubi have their own apps you can download to phone, tablet and PC too. Good luck and if I'm right, enjoy.
Remarkable, yes. Especially with the recent death of David Lynch, but also many times before I have lauded the film The Straight Story for its limited action and conversation. Brilliant!
Oh my goodness. Just what I needed this morning.
I'm so glad! Thank you.
Back in the day, I taught the book—and it was received with such attention by whites and blacks. I wonder if it would be banned today.

Nothing since then that I could find. Happily.

Yes! Thanks for this notice.
The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman
Is on YouTube.
Thanks, Malcolm. I should have mentioned that.
I'll never forget that moment.

So true.

Thanks. I'll look for it tonight.
Weeping I am. Wow. Thank you for the inspiration.
I did the same, though I've seen it before. Wept like a baby.
I cry a lot these days and am proud that I know what I'm crying about.
Me, too. But mainly I froth...
And all those minutes, not a word is spoken. Thanks, Ramona.
And none needed. Remarkable film-making.
